My Ruger stopped working

Post: # 107626Post dustymars »

Well, the spring in my Ruger Mk II sprung so it will not shoot. Ordered a new spring.  I use it for lowing rat heads off, We have not seen a rat in years, but two showed up this week, one was sick, so I used my trusty Daily BB gun.  I still shoot good.  The Ruger is a .22 LR used for target practice and rat killing.  It works very good when parts don't break.  I have a small Beretta .22 short, a Ruger .357, 7" barrel and .44 long 10.5" barrel.  Of course, that is a bit high blasting for rats.

I have a Ruger GP 100 that's never given me any problems. Being a trap shooter I have several shotguns and a couple of big game rifles. My motto has been, always carry a larger cal than you think you will ever need. Have never run to a Grizz and hope I never do. I hear they can outrun a horse for a short distance, I find that hard to believe but don't want to find out.

I also have a 1911 .45 for people who like to bust in my doors.

The .22 is for rats.  I have always been a good shot and never understood why.  I my youth a friend and I hunted rabbits for his mom to cook and I always hit it the first shot and put it out.  From my first arms range session in the Air Force, using an M1/ .30 Carbine, I scored Expert and after so many times expert, they just didn't schedule me.  Shooting the Ruger Mk II I usually hot a rat in the head at 40-50 feet.  I really don't see all that well now.

Anyway, I think bent something in the trigger mechanism so maybe more parts will be necessary.  That model is weird in the way it is disassembled.  You have to old it a certain way with the rigger pulled, then listen for the sound of something, then take out the bolt locking and hammer strut.  The hammer strut is hard to get out lately, so I must have scored something. My maintenance is not "expert" these days, but I am 84 years old!

Then learned something new after reading the instruction manual it has a section where the receiver and barrel come off the handle and trigger section.  It is not coming apart correctly so it must be corroded.  Always something.
