     California's so big it doesn't show up in this report.  However, where we live high taxes are on everything.
    Here's a sample:
       The median property tax in California is $2,839.00 per year for a home worth the median value of $384,200.00. Counties in California collect an average of 0.74% of a property's assesed fair market value as property tax per year.

   The thing is that on the coast you'd be hard pressed to find an empty lot, without utilities, for under $500,000.  If you find one it's probably unbuildable or remote.  The "typical" house on the coast sells for about $1,000,000.

Maybe California statistics were influenced by the properties unsold and still under Prop 13 limits.

  Actually, most of the Prop 13 homes have been sold and resold over the past several decades; they're on the higher rate now.
