My Father landed at Omaha Beach in July with the 28th ID to replace those who landed during D-Day.  He fought in the Hurtgen Forrest Battle and then the Battle of the Bulge.  Here he is right after the Bulge ended on the cover of a later version of Life Magazine (far right):
