I graduated from SFSU, Biology 1974. We learned in our first round of lab work to use the ventilator / pull down shield. Why? Face masks are only reliable until the exhaled moisture inside the mask builds up and reaches the exterior side of the mask.LoneWalker wrote: ↑Sun Oct 04, 2020 12:37 pm A 2019 World Health Organization review of numerous studies testing the efficacy of face coverings to stop the transmission of influenza found "no evidence that [wearing a mask] is effective in reducing transmission" of the virus.
The organization has further discouraged individuals from using cloth masks to cover their faces during pandemics, though at times that advice has appeared to shift. The 2019 review was part of a larger study examining "non-pharmaceutical public health measures for mitigating the risk and impact of epidemic and pandemic influenza."
That paper effected a "systematic review of the evidence on the effectiveness of [non-pharmaceutical interventions], including personal protective measures, environmental measures, social distancing measures and travel-related measures."

This is pure BS. How can the article say one thing, and then the executive summary say the opposite? The WHO, like our CDC, is a lying sack of political BS. They have no credibility left for anything. They are nothing more than a weaponized arm of the DNC. Just like the fake media.FreedomRings wrote: ↑Sun Oct 04, 2020 4:39 pm Reread the executive summary. This report, from last year, basically said there there aren't enough studies/data (including computer model data) and an actual pandemic with higher compliance may have better results .
There has been several studies this year at a national level and lab settings with Covid19 that clearly shows they do help.
Thing is, a virus is not limited to existence inside droplets. A person infected with a respiratory virus, just by breathing in and out, will expel virus that goes right through even multiple layers of cloth. And even seriously ill people breath many, many time more than they cough and/or sneeze.Canis wrote:Wed Dec 31, 1969 7:24 pm The only thing masks do are to lower the amount of mucous droplets that an infected person spews into the air. Masks don't stop transmissions but they do lower the amount of droplets entering the air therefore lowering the risk....but not eliminating the risk.
