Uh…I think somebody missed the part about being committed for mental issues. At that point law enforcement temporarily can remove the person’s guns (which would be returned not taken forever). My daughter can tell you that when someone has a total break from reality (like schizophrenia) you don’t want them to be armed.

Who decides what is a mental issue. Democrats say anyone that votes republican has a mental issue.

Wait a minute. Didn't the autho r ities attempt to do this in April of 1775 in Concord, Massachusetts? How did that work out for the authorities?

Why only guns? Why not remove knives, hammers, pokers, golf clubs, heavy blunt objects, cars and anything else that could be used to murder someone? Nope. These "red flag" laws are just another thinly-veiled attack on the 2A. I am rather surprised and disappointed in President Trump for supporting them.

The fact that the "red flag laws" can be imposed merely on the say so of an anonymous affidavit makes them all the more dangerous. A criminal gang could file one against an' innocent law abiding citizen an' after the police have confiscated the guns that they need for protection, do a home invasion an' rape an' murder the innocent civilians. Also who is to say crooked politicians ( an' there are a plethora of those) won't abuse them like they abuse their power?

IMO abuse is guaranteed. Such is the nature of this type of legislation.

Frankly, I’d rather see people who’ve ‘lost it’ placed in protective mental health custody unless and until they can be deemed as not being dangerous. In this scenario they wouldn’t have any access to the means to murder anyone.

Also, it used to be that local law enforcement (that knew who was who) did indeed lock up people who ‘lost it’ (often due to alcohol or drugs) hence stopping their access to weapons of any type.

Basically, this kind of thing poses a real problem. We want our God given Right to self protection but we don’t want to see raging lunatics and/or Terrorists arming themselves and killing our innocent citizens. This isn’t an easy problem IMO.
