Maryland Bridge Collapse

Post: # 100400Post Canis Minor »

I just turned on my TV and a huge bridge in Baltimore has collapsed! They don't know much about this as of yet...accident or sabotage? Now the bridge name is 'The Francis Scott Key Bridge' and an accident with a container ship appears to be the cause. This will be a mass casualty event as 20+ people went down into the water. Also, the container ship is flagged out of Singapore. I'll see if I can find a link to this.

Where was the sh!thead captain?
Asleep in his cabin?
Asleep at the wheel?

No one on the bridge of that ship knew where the shipping channel was?
No one knew what the little green and red lights mean?

No one knew that they were going to go under a bridge?

Time for a few long walks of a short pier.

It appears the ship lost power just prior to impact. If you look at the video, the ship is in the dark, then the lights come back on. It looks like at that time the ship tried to turn away, but to late.

When entering an' exiting port, as this ship was doing, ta harbor pilot is ferried aboard and by law he has command of the ship. The harbor pilot was on the bridge of the ship and was giving orders to the helmsman. Apparently the ship lost power and went adrift.

It has been reported that the Captain did call into the port and reported a possible collision. The ship lost propulsion after leaving port.
Horrible Tragedy - Thank goodness it was not at rush hour traffic.

Interesting Fact:

The Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore. The bridge was 8,636 feet (2,632 m) long and carried an estimated 11.5 million vehicles annually. It was a designated hazardous materials truck route, as HAZMATs are prohibited in the Baltimore Harbor and Fort McHenry tunnels.

My husband, when we owned our trucking co travelled this bridge quite often.

It's a rare event but does happen every year somewhere.
Although it's usually smaller vessels and alcohol is a common factor.

While we view this as a tragedy, politicians are already scheming on how to launder millions to their friends and relatives during the rebuild.

Meanwhile the Port of Baltimre, a major commercial shipping port, s effectively closed for the indefinite future. Watch for supply chain disruptions. If I were a "tin foil hat wearing conspiracy theorist" I'd say that someone manufactured the engine room malfunction on that ship.
