Years ago, during a huge slump in the oilfield, I hired on with the railroad. I needed to get a decent job and try to pull out of The Great Oilfield Depression. I hired on with Southern Pacific up in Dalhart, Texas. Southern Pacific was headquartered in San Francisco ever since 1870. Southern Pacific had ferry boats to ferry people across the Golden Gate and so they litigated and sued and attempted to stop the construction of the Golden Gate Bridge for YEARS. They finally lost and the bridge was built.
