This newbie needs some meme posting help! a little posting info

I was in the area where favorite memes are posted, so tried a few times to post one of my favs. It was the same size as other memes posted there and the same, or fewer characters in my meme. When I previewed it I got this message:

Your message contains 325277 characters.
The maximum number of allowed characters is 60000.

I went thru the FAQs & hoping to find instructions, all I saw was that BB Code should be on to post an image.  My BB code is/was on, so I just must be doing something wrong - can anyone help me?

To post an image, you need to use the icon at the top of the message that looks like a square with mountains.  If you hover the mouse over it, the word Image will appear.  The site does not store images, so you need to supply a URL where the image is hosted.
