'Robot umpires' coming to Triple A

Post: # 45428Post flaokie »

"Robotic umpires that use an automated system for determining ball and strike calls will now be used in Triple-A baseball for the 2022 season, MLB officials announced."

Robot umps are not going to help baseball one little bit, as far as I'm concerned.

"Kill the ump" was part of what made the game.
Kicking dirt on the ump was part of what made the game.
Screaming and jumping up and down 3 millimeters from the umps face was part of what made the game.

Go screw around with other sports - leave baseball the way it is.

The dumbest rule they implemented (to speed up the game) was to have an automatic runner on second base
in an extra inning game. I can't see how the pitcher can be charged with an earned run if the guy scores, when he had nothing to do with putting him on base. I am also not a fan of interleague play (diluted league stats).

I would be curious to see how an automated strike zone would work out. If they had one in order years ago,
pitchers like Greg Maddux and Tom Glavine would never have had as many strikes called, as they tended to get favored calls by the umps, even when the pitch was actually outside a tad or more.

I never liked the inter league games.
You have different leagues for a reason.  It's quite simple -- the league winners can play each other at season's end -- aka WORLD SERIES.

The extra inning "runner" on second is also a pile of crap. If it is really important to speed things up and get the fans home, then sit down all the outfielders.

If a game is too long for your short attention span, then DON'T WATCH.
