And the Winner is......
The sun goes down, and brings out a fear
of loneliness that seems oh so near.
But when it's time once again to rise,
my ordeals win no trophies nor a prize.
Changes, my friend, are hard to accept,
especially when it feels that nothing is left.
You'll feel it's time to choose a new road.
Crossroads of life just add to your load.
It seems to me that there must be more
to life and to love and just what it's all for.
But ask yourself, what is my life?
Have I been honest in all of my strife?
Oh, there will be times when you won't feel whole,
but only when you've been untrue to your soul.
You can suffer, you can hurt and you can strain.
But remember, only you can feel your own pain.
Time will go by and on flies my mind
to a different land where all are my kind.
Never feel alone because it's just an illusion
cast down by Satan to cause you confusion.
When you hurt, I hurt, and so do many others.
It is the devil in all my sisters and brothers.
Remember always and you'll always be strong,
that you are yourself and you can be wrong.
One of man's weaknesses is that he just won't give in.
No one wants to lose, but how can everyone win?
Understand yourself and look towards your soul.
There lies the answers just as I have been told.
I have seen myself, oh yes, it is true.
I have been told just what of me is due.
I struggle, too, to shake my devil loose.
Because I won't worship him, he keeps me confused.
A body in mind is what really exists.
Strange as it seems, and it's torn me to bits.
All things must pass, and the sun must once again rise.
But maybe just one morning, I'll win me a prize.

Just a Midnight Rush
The snow is fallin’, the leaves are all gone
The sun is risin’ on this Sunday dawn
The streets are empty, red lights a blinkin’
Silence breaks with the church bells a ringin’
Too bad the day couldn’t carry it on
But while it lasts, I’ll be thinkin’ of you hon’
Two children run to be in church on time
‘Cause they know the priest ain’t gonna fall for no lie
With a fatherly gesture, I give them a wink
I really wonder if it’s the same that they think
There’s a poor man selling yesterday’s news
So I give him a quarter to help chase away his blues
I glance at Dick Tracy, just to keep up to date
Too bad Orphan Annie still hasn’t a mate
I head home with paper in hand
Hoping it will help me understand
I try telling myself, it wasn’t really much
That it was all just a midnight rush
But you know, and I know, that an eternal flame
Can only be doused with an eternal blame
So until next Sunday, I’ll have to wait
‘cause with Mr. Blues, I have many more dates

Re: Byrd Droppings
Bounded Hope
With weary eyes, we read the news and can't believe it's true.
How can this be, in such short time, death has made you blue.
Sometimes we want an answer from the One who gave us life
Why these things have to happen amidst life's toiling strife.
Mother, wife and friend to all, she has to bear this pain
Just when there seemed some sunshine, and now e'en still more rain
It's not just someone else we know, that this can happen to
We feel fear inside the heart, cause you know it could be you.
This man, he had been searching for, what I felt I found
And now my hopes and prayers for him feel like they have been bound
It's often said that some must die so some can stay and live
But how much could One expect of her, when she gave all that she could give.
It's times like this that we reflect on what, that matters most
What seemed like something worrisome, now seems nothing to boast
We try, as friends, to offer what we could
But no matter what words come to mind, it doesn't feel good.
I pray that strength can be bestowed to see one through today
and then tomorrow comes a new dawn, some hope will come her way
No words can say what heals such pain, we know this will take time.
And for what it's worth, if strength she needs, then I will loan her mine.

Re: Byrd Droppings
An Insomniac's Dream
I see the stars, oh how they shine.
I try to sleep, just lay here and whine.
There were rainbows once, I know they were there.
That were all about you, even in your hair.
I remember the magic that rose from so deep.
How can I forget the love you gave me, how can I sleep?
Searching for that mystical peace, where does it lie?
I had such a peace until I said goodbye.
Changes all around just won't let things be.
Time has ways to overcome you and me.
But that constant struggle, the one from within.
You try to be happy, but don't want to sin.
There must be a road somewhere in my life,
where I will be reborn and make you my wife.
babe, hang on please, I will return.
In the meanwhile I will just try to learn.
So babe, be good, I'll be thinking of you.
And if things are to different, go on and read part two.
If you've got the faith to be mine forever.
let this poem end for the better.
(Part Two)
You say that maybe things are changing too much.
I sure know that it would be hurt me enough.
If that's what you want, think hard before you act.
It's sometimes hard to tell fantasy from fact.
I will rock then while you will roll.
Be happy, you've got a beautiful soul.
It's just that it would be oh so nice,
if you'd be mine and I am precise
in saying to you that maybe this road,
just might release this heavy load.
And if this road has me destined to once again burn,
I shall return, yes, babe, I have learned.
So now, babe, good night, it's not all too much.
Good night is all I have, but is it enough?
I see the stars, oh how they shine.
I try to sleep, just lay here and whine.
