Smilies - READ THIS PRIOR TO USING

Smilies appear to the right of the writing area. Additional smilies are accessed by the View more smilies link. If one or more smilies are selected from the View more smilies link, there is a problem with the text disappearing after submitting the post.

The workaround when selecting from View more smilies is to first select the Source button, which toggles to a window showing plain text and sometimes tags (text within brackets).  Ensure the flashing cursor is where you want to show the smilie. Select View more smilies, select the smilie, and submit the message.

If desired, you can switch back to the graphical text window by selecting Source again. The important requirement is to select the smilie from the View more smilies window when the plain text editor is displayed.
