My daughter's 5-year old, Dell Inspiron 15 3000-3552 gave her the BSOD so after I diagnosed it to be unknown problem she bought a newer one, an Inspiron 15 3000-3502 with SSD and no CD drive. As long as we can remember laptops have come with CD's. Oh well, they need the profits so getting older programs to install will require some hacking work. I tried transferring a CD to a jump-stick, but we all know that ain't going to work. Maybe an external USB CD drive may work, but we are tired of all the nickel and dime gouging (more like $30 and $100 gouging stuff).
So, she will just have to work around using my old Office 2003 and my VB5.0 programs until I am forced into replacing my laptop and getting a USB CD drive. I only use a CD once or twice a year, so why spend $30 before it is required?
Her new 3505 is really lightweight, fast and works great, so I will forgive MS and their Mafia-style businesses; yes, they do need profits so I know that. We tend to be el-cheap-o. The new Solid State Drives are faster and maybe last longer than a hard drive.

I must be getting older than I thought; yes, the light bulb went off in my nimble head
so I connected an Ethernet cable between my PC and my wife's PC, set the network sharing up and Shazam; it worked like a charm!!! Man, I must be getting brain dead in my old age. Wow, I used to did this stuff in my sleep back in the day. Practice makes perfect, my mom always told me. Guess Windows has everything we dream of using but if we never use it, it never gets used.

I think it's a trend for laptops to omit CD and DVD drives with so much software and video now downloaded.

At a price That's the trick. No problem, everyone needs to make a living. It would be nicer if some of those billionaires would stop the Marxist trends. Why is the question.
Was looking at Office 365 and MS's marketing strategy; a family plan is around $100 a year and is comparable to paying for Norton's or other similar programs. It is probably the future in home and business computing. Internet has to change to a more safe and user friendlier platform since it got off to a weird and rocky start. I blame Bill Gates for much of the stupidity in personal computing. His whole life has been making money; any old way he could, not ingenuity.

I love my laptop; my cat does too since he naps in my lap between my belly and the PC. Yes, when both his paws rest on my keyboard some interesting screen frames pop up. His home is behind my desktop ...

I have been using Office 365 for 5 years now and yesterday I discovered I can keep files on OneDrive WITHOUT having my computer filled with them BUT still have access to those files. When I did that my drive went from 600+GB used to just over 300 GB used.dustymars wrote: ↑Tue Jul 20, 2021 12:16 pmAt a price That's the trick. No problem, everyone needs to make a living. I also did this:
"open Settings > System > Storage.
Select Temporary Files
choose which temporary files to remove
READ EACH SECTION to determine if you should delete them" because SOME files need to stay put for use by programs.
After doing all that, my computer runs like a new one. I had been looking to buy a new laptop, now not so sure.
