My new Dell is also built like a tank.  Compared to the one I am now typing on, the screen is taped open so not to close and rip the guts out, but really works great.  I have some software problems with Thunderbird and a couple programs, due to tech writers who know nothing about users.  when I was in engineering school, back in Bible times, the taught us how to interreact with customers (users) so to design stuff that people could understand how to use.  Customer marketing, in other words.  Now, after 65 years working on or designing computer hardware and software, I am at a complete loss to how to set one up.  Yea, I am getting old as a koot, but I still can read and write.

ImageAnyway, I am happy as lark with my new Dell 5640 laptop. Don't I look just happy?  Image Image Image  I read about replacement hinges for the 3510 and will fix the taped up one for my wife.

Sometimes we win, but at times we loose.  My new laptop SSD drive pooped out so Dell is sending me a replacement with Win-11 installed.  I will fix it and give Dell a break since their labor d=force eh=needs a vacation.

Sometimes I appreciate Internet gurus handing out advice but at times they don’t think straight. My SSD went south in my new Dell laptop, so they are sending me repayment parts. I am dealing with Indian chat techs, so I don’t ask them much of things get mixed up. My laptop only has a SSD and not a hard drive but are sending both. A couple Internet gurus suggested I ask for a replacement laptop, but I would have to send the broke one back with the SSD and all my private information on it. Not a good idea, so in dealing with so-called experts I just clam up.

I will replace the SSD since it is a fairly easy job and if the Dell chat guy is right it will have Windows 11 installed. All I have to do it reinstall my clone I made right before the SSD crashed. Maybe if they don’t want the hard drive back, I’ll out in in as well for a TeraByte system. Why I would need that much storage is something else.

Sometimes I retort with my years of experience and education in computers, but I refrain most of the time. My first electronics and computer work began in early 1960 and I still work on them now. I attained two BS degrees in electronics engineering and Computer Science, then an engineer and/or technician for 42 more years and after retiring 23 years ago as well. While I learned a lot by mistakes, the experience was good. Hopefully I can replace the part(s) without tearing it up.

Well, I was using my new Dell this evening and it stopped working and will not boot up. I got it in the BIOS mode and ran tests, but nothing fixed it or indicated what the problem is. Then it wanted my 48-digit recovery number or bitlocker number (do not have it) but then if the SSD was replaced it has all new tags and secret codes. I started a chat with Dell but was told it was too late, call back tomorrow. Guess Dell is not on my happy list.

It broke last week with the blue screen and they sent me a new SSD that I replaced it. SSD still works good enough to enter BIOS mode and do diagnostics. but without all the codes I up the creek. I thought my original codes were still good.  This is not making me happy.

It worked for a week and crashed last evening.  This time was something in Windows.  Not happy with Dell.  My chat and call ended with a Windows reset in progress.  Hope that works and I may ask for a new laptop.

My new Dell is back.  Something wrong with Windows.  Really weird MS updates maybe.  Really tired of it.

I remembered storing away two Topmate laptop coolers so I got them and am running one under my new Dell laptop.  Laptop runs a lot cooler wow.  Strange.

Bought Dell Insprion 16-5640 laptop in early September and the SSD cashed three weeks later. It worked for four days after I replaced the SSD, but after talking with Dell support they walked me thought a Windows reset on September 18 and it is still working okay.  Fingers crossed.
